Spring Ball raises £1131 for RAG

Over one thousand pounds was raised for RAG at Langwith’s first ever Spring Formal on Thursday.

The exclusive event at York’s Hilton Hotel saw a hundred Langwith students enjoy a meal and wine, before the night moved on to a Charity Auction.

Lots included meals kindly donated by Yo! Sushi and Nandos, and tickets to The York Dungeon. £70 was bid for a dinner date with Langwith’s very own Jolyon Brown, who was also the DJ for the night.

The big ticket item was a pair of VIP tickets to Leeds Festival. The tickets, which are not available to the public and include access to the star-studded VIP bar, were snapped up for a cool £600. Other big bids included the rights to name a room in the college, and the chance to be the ‘Face of Langwith’; which both sold for over £100.

In total, the auction raised £1131 for Hope for Children, Langwith’s charity of the year.

Symone Thompson, College President and the new ‘Face of Langwith’ said: 'I'm so happy with the Ball, we raised so much cash for such a good cause and it was great to see so many people having such a good time. This term has been out of this world for Langwith, with massive successes at Varsity, in the YUSU elections, at the RAG parade, at our own events and this just taops it off.

'A massive thank you must go to Sean Gater for organising the ball and my Student Association team who have been working so hard to make Langwith the number one college this term!'

Fliss Turner, who successfully bid £64 for a 'mystery box' said: 'The auction last night was such good fun, a fantastic way to raise money for Hope for Children! I thought the mystery box was hilarious and I'm so glad I bid for it as I know the money is going towards an amazing charity. The fact that Langwith raised so much money last night goes to show what an amazing college we really are.'
