Disability & Access

Breaking down obstacles.

Hear from our Disability & Access Officer, Calum

As Disability and Access Officer for the Student Association it is my responsibility to represent the views of Langwith College students with disability and accessibility concerns.

Through awareness campaigns and one-on-one support, I hope to empower students and ensure they experience as few obstacles as possible whilst at The University of York. By participating actively as a member of the YUSU Disabled Students’ Network, my colleagues and I aim to highlight issues both for students of Langwith College and university-wide.

I also regularly run drop-in sessions to offer students the opportunity to consult me about difficulties they or their peers are having. I self-define as having a disability/accessibility concern and it may therefore be appropriate for me to provide support through my own experiences.

It is important to ensure that, along with other members of the Student Support Team, students with such concerns are directed to the appropriate support services.

Students should not experience unnecessary hindrances whilst studying at University because of a disability or accessibility concern – I hope to ensure that all students can enjoy their time at York and that support is provided every step of the way.
