Ron Cooks! Free Food Thursday is back
Free Food Thursday is back and bigger than ever.
Students don’t require much. Once they have shelter, a laptop and library access all they really require is feeding. Eager to fill the rumbling stomachs of their students, Langwith’s Student Association has been busy bringing back our beloved Free Food Thursdays!
The philanthropic tradition is one dating back to the college’s Hes West days when piles of jacket potatoes successfully satisfied hordes of hungry students. With Langwith’s growth last year there are more mouths to feed and Free Food Thursdays have never been this appetising!
Each week is now themed and kicking things off in week 2 was pizza week, of which welfare officer Edi Adegbola tweeted ‘Ran out of pizza in about 15 minutes. That has to be some sort of record!’ (@Ediadegbola).
Holly Hudson, Langwith first year loved the pizza: 'It was lip-smackingly good, deeeeelicous'
Next came the children’s party treats and then in week 4 Chinese New Year celebrations! Spring rolls galore were accompanied by karaoke and Langwith loved it! Perhaps this success is simply due to the irresistible appeal of free food but it is undoubtedly a testament to Langwith’s lasting spirit.
Miriam Keck, Deputy-President for Welfare and Langwith's own Food Fraulein, said: 'Ich finde das essen sehr gut ja! Free food has been a massive succes so far this term, and it's only going to get bigger!'
Our communal feasting helps strengthen the community as whole and we’d go as far as to say that a college that eats together stays together (or perhaps just gains a few pounds). Special thanks go out to Miriam Keck, Deputy President for Welfare and Welfare Officers Nicola Forest and Edi Adegbola who are all quickly rivalling York’s best chefs.
